The lake of Krn



The Krn lake lies at the altitude of 1340 m and is 400 m long and 17 m deep and is Slovenia's highest - lying Alpine lake. Between the two wars, small, voracious fish (common minnow - Phoxinus leavis), which serve as food for trout, were brought to the lake and have adopted quite well. The Krn lake almost completely submerged the depression surrounded by sparse spruce stands at the foot of Krn. Serene are the moments of sunset, as we gaze from its shores the stone faces above us. The Duplje lake is located nearly, and just above stands a newly - constructed lodge of PD Gorica. It is smaller than the Krn lake (100 by 60 m) and shallowed as well.

• approach it from lepena pass by the krn lake cottage to the very lake;
• it is a starting-point for many peaks, such as: krn, lemeš, šmohor, velika baba, koluder… .
