Dear Madam/Sir,
This year, in Bovec, Slovenia will host the European Draughts Championship for the first time. The presence in our territory of the greatest European masters of this queen of games signifies the astounding recognition of Slovenia as one of the youngest members of the World Draughts Federation. The championship will certainly contribute to the greater promotion and development of draughts in Slovenia, Europe and around the world. Playing draughts is a kind of sport that occupies our mind, too. It enables one not only to improve his/her logical thinking, but, while calculating various combinations, also to develop one"s imagination. Its sporting qualities include the virtues of competitiveness that are very much needed in our daily life, namely: to show joy after winning, to compromise in case of a draw, to shake hands with the opponent as a real sportsman after losing, and to learn from defeat. In addition, playing games always gives the opportunity to create new ties and friendships as well as to meet old friends and get to know new countries. Given the above, it is obvious that draughts is not only a game, but much more. I wish much success and pleasant socialising to the draughts players and to all who are involved in the championship.
